I love going to the movies! There is something so magical about experiencing a new film in a room full of other fans, and I missed it when things came to a halt in 2020. With the rise of streaming services, more and more people are opting to watch at home, but for those who love the theater experience, here are some films to look forward to this year.
Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Set to release in May of 2022, this next installment featuring Benedict Cumberbatch as the clever Dr. Strange will also feature a massive cast of characters comparable to an Avengers movie. In this story, Dr. Strange casts a spell that opens the door to the multiverse, including an alternate version of himself. Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, and Rachel McAdams return to this installment as Dr. Strange traverses through the mesmerizing corners of the multiverse. According to the commercial released during SuperBowl 56, Patrick Stewart might be there to reprise his role as Charles Xavier from The X Men series, and rumor has it that a few other Avengers and even Spider-Men might be seen. I need to have at least a mini-marathon of Marvel movies to catch up before I see this, but I am so excited for this film.
LightYear

Fly away to infinity and beyond in this “requel” to Disney/Pixar's
Toy Story franchise. Set for release on June 17, this is the origin story of Buzz Lightyear- a young pilot before he became a hero Space Ranger. The movie tells the story of the hero who inspired the toy action figure. For this reason, the voice of Buzz Lightyear will be Chris Evans, not Tim Allen. The characters who accompany Buzz on his intergalactic adventures include Uzo Aduba and James Brolin. Also appearing is the evil Emperor Zurg- BBuzz'snemesis in the Toy Story movies. Director Angus MacLane (Finding Dory) stated in an interview with Collider that he pitched the idea as “the movie Andy saw that made him want a Buzz Lightyear, let's make that movie.”A novel idea and one we hope is entertaining for adults and kids alike.
Hocus Pocus 2

Let's admit it, if you were born in the mid to late 80s and grew up in the 90s and went to a sleepover in October- you hoped they had Hocus Pocus on VHS. Now, with Disney+ making it possible to watch it year-round and at any moment you like, this classic still doesn't get old. Many of us have been anxiously waiting for this moment for years, and at long last, it's happening!! Twenty-nine years after their demise, the Sanderson Sisters once again find themselves in “modern” Salem, and once again, it's up to a few teenagers to stop their evil ways. The original cast of Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy return, along with Doug Jones. There is a lot of speculation about other cameos from the original cast, but nothing has been confirmed. It is reported that this sequel may go straight to Disney+, but after 29 years of waiting for a sequel, I will happily view this on my flat screen with high-speed internet, at a sleepover with my closest friends.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Officially the sequel of Black Panther, this movie will be the 30th film in the MCU and is scheduled for release in November. As you may know, Chadwick Boseman, the star of Black Panther, tragically died in August of 2020 due to colon cancer. This new movie pays tribute to him and the world of Wakanda that he helped bring to life for fans of Marvel. The president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, stated in December of 2020 that while this film and the story of Wakanda will go on, TT'Challawill not be recast, which was a relief to so many fans. Returning in their roles, however, are Lupita NNyong'o Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett, and several other actors from the first film. Without its King, this film will focus on the supporting characters introduced in the first movie and the changes in Wakanda. Since this is part of MMarvel'sPhase 4, we can expect some significant changes that will keep us on our toes to follow the story. However, I hope the magic and beauty of Wakanda make up for that. After several production delays, find this in theaters on November 11, 2022.
Avatar 2

At long last, James Cameron will take us back to Pandora, and we can finally find out if Jake and Neyti'ri were able to live happily ever after. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana reprise their roles as it would seem an old enemy has returned to threaten their family and way of life once again. Set only 12 years after the Navi fought for their homeland and exiled the humans from their planet, they must again defend PPandora'sliving natural resources from those who seek to use them for their gain. With a release date of December 16, this movie is sure to be a blockbuster, just in time for the winter holidays. I am beyond excited about this movie!
