Disney's Contemporary Resort Review

Last month, my husband and I took an adults-only trip to Walt Disney World. What? No Kids? Yes, no kids! It was kind of like a Honeymoon for us ( 15 years later) since we didn't get to take one when we got married. We were supposed to stay at Disney's Caribbean Beach resort but with a 35% discount on room rate, I was able to get us reservations at Disney's Contemporary Resort for $200 more. It was well worth the upgrade.

We stayed in a South Garden Wing Standard Room. We absolutely loved it. Our room was on the third floor and was so big. You could have put 2 rooms of Caribbean Beach in this room. It would normally sleep, 6 adults and had 2 queen beds and 1 queen pull-out couch. The room had a very large flat-screen TV. and it also had a desk that contained charger ports. There was also a Kerigic Coffee Maker with Jefferies coffee pods and come tea pods. My husband was hoping for some hot chocolate but that wasn't an option. There was also a mini-fridge. The standard rooms don't usually have a view but we had a view of the parking lot and could watch the Monorail go by. We also could see the tip of the castle from our window.

The bathroom was the size of a room at a value resort. You walked into the bathroom and there was a double sink and a shower. The shower had this beautiful Mosaic tile in it. There was a little room to the left when you walked into the bathroom that had just the toilet in it. The best part of the bathroom was, the shower did not have those soap dispensers. Our room actually had the sample bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Yes, they did come home with me. They also gave you a small box of Q-tips and a shower cap.

The next morning, we got up around 7 and made sure we were ready to rope drop Magic Kingdom. We walked past the long line at Contemporary Grounds and made our way outside. I didn't need to stop to get coffee thanks to making a cup in the room. I think the best part about staying there was we were just a short walk to Magic Kingdom. We literally walked across the street and were in Magic Kingdom getting breakfast at Gaston's before 8:30 AM.

We spent most of the morning at Magic Kingdom and in the afternoon we met up with another Story Guide, Vickie Black. We grabbed a quick lunch and made our way back to The Contemporary for a much-needed nap. We did take the Monorail back this time. Note to self, when you go back to the resort for a nap put the do not disturb sign on the door. We thought housekeeping wasn't going to come into our room because the website said they would only service our room every other day. Well, I guess they come in and get your trash. So, the housekeeper came in and realized we were sleeping.

After our nap and before we headed off to Animal Kingdom for dinner at Rainforest Cafe we checked out the pool and Bay Lake. There are 2 pools at The Contemporary. One that is like a family pool that was right behind our building. It had a big water slide, a hot tub, a large pool, and a child's play area. There are also cabana rentals at the pool that include flat-screen tv, iPod or iPhone docking station, resort phone, and a mini-fridge. The other pool is more like a quiet pool. There is also a snack bar located near the family pool that is called the Sand Dollar.

We also checked out the Marina where you can rent boats to go out on Bay lake. We were going to rent a mouse boat but we ran out of time during our trip. Just something we have to try when we come back. Close to the Marina and the pool are some basketball courts, and a volleyball court on the sand. There are also tennis courts.

On the day of checkout we went and did some shopping in Bayview gifts and Fantasia Gifts. They were your typical souvenir shops. Bayview gifts has a small counter that has some treats in it like cupcakes and fudge. They also carry clothes, bags, purses, and housewares. I did get a Pineapple cupcake here that was amazing and I also bought 2 coffee mugs to take home. I collect Disney Coffee Mugs and couldn't leave without getting a few to add to my collection. Fantasia Gifts was geared more towards kids' toys than anything else. You could get specialty magic bands in there. We picked up our daughter some trading pins for her collection and got my nephew a collection of cars characters.

We will be staying at this resort again. There is so much more to do and see that we didn't get to do. At a previous Disney World trip, we did get to eat at Chef Mickey's but it was still a Buffett. We would like to try it as the family-style restaurant it is today. Next time we will rent a boat to take out on Bay Lake. One thing we did get to see a glimpse of was the Electrical Water Pagent. We will need a non-park day just to explore this large resort.
